PHARMA
& BIOTECH
Modern pharmaceuticals play a crucial role in the fight against cancer – not only by developing breakthrough therapies, but also by ensuring their production at the required scale. The response to growing demand lies in advanced process solutions and investments in state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies. Leading pharmaceutical companies are modernizing their facilities by implementing innovative installations that meet the highest quality and safety standards (GMP, hygienic design), ensuring full control over cleanliness and process repeatability.
This enables the large-scale production of specialized oncology treatments – faster, more efficiently, and without compromising quality. Below is an example of such a comprehensive project carried out in collaboration with Boccard, demonstrating how process innovation translates into better therapy accessibility for patients fighting disease.
Innovations in pharmaceutical manufacturing
One of Europe’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers has built its position in the industry over many years through consistent development and the implementation of modern technologies. The company specializes in advanced production of medicinal products, including liquid and semi-solid dosage forms, supplying both the domestic and international markets.
Advanced vessels and engineering challenges
The delivered installations meet the highest pharmaceutical quality standards. The vessels are designed with electropolished surfaces and a construction that minimizes crevices and facilitates efficient cleaning. Each vessel is equipped with multiple CIP spray devices, including an advanced rotating spray head operating in two planes, ensuring full surface coverage and compliance with GMP requirements.
One of the main engineering challenges was the implementation of a triple agitator on a single shaft, requiring an advanced sealing system capable of operating under varying pressure conditions. Although this solution had been used in previous Boccard projects, it required the development of local expertise and further technological optimization.
Additionally, the project involved integration with the existing plant infrastructure. This required precise installation of larger equipment within a limited production space and adaptation to existing connection points. Dedicated tools were also designed to support logistics and installation.
Project Scope – turnkey execution
Providing full EPC delivery, Boccard ensures end-to-end project execution — from equipment manufacturing, through installation, to process infrastructure upgrades.
Key project elements:
- Two vacuum-pressure process vessels (–1 to +3 bar):
- 60 L – homogenizer with high-speed agitator
- 680 L – mixer with three independent drives and three types of agitators
- Installation and integration: positioning, connection to existing infrastructure, new routing, and system upgrades
- Instrumentation and electrical: vessel equipment and integration with the plant control system
Caring for People...
The installation supports the production of specialized oncology creams used in the treatment of skin cancers – products that genuinely improve patients’ quality of life and support them in their daily fight against disease.
Thanks to the implemented solutions, it is possible to:
- Increase production capacity
- Run processes in stable and repeatable conditions
- Ensure high product quality and safety
- Maintain supply continuity
…and Planet
The project also includes an important environmental dimension:
- Process optimization – faster and less energy-intensive operations
- Modern CIP systems – reduced consumption of water and chemicals
- Durability and reliability – minimizing waste and environmental impact
The result is a solution that supports both operational efficiency and sustainable development.
